First Time

You have decided to try yoga! We welcome you to the best thing you’ll likely ever do for yourself.

For first-timers, we recommend Yoga Source’s Yoga Basics and Open Levels classes, as these are designed specifically for those who are beginning their yoga practice. Yoga Source occasionally offers an Introduction to Yoga Series which is taught in a structured 4 to 8 week session. 

To be prepared when entering class for the very first time, we’ve put together a list of what you’ll need to bring, how to dress and our studio etiquette. We look forward to being a part of your yoga journey here at Yoga Source, your source for yoga in St. Louis.

Preparation & Etiquette

Classrooms opens 15 minutes prior to class. New students plan to arrive 15 minutes early to register.

Yoga is practiced barefoot. Please remove your shoes and leave them in the cubbies near the front door.  You will spend time focusing on gripping your feet, spreading your toes and evenly distributing your weight over your entire feet. If you have lotion or cream on your feet, you can slip.

Wear comfortable clothing that feels good to stretch and sweat in. Loose-fitting shirts will fall when in down dog, etc, so it’s best to try to wear a fitted shirt when possible.  We have two restrooms for changing if you need them.

Show up well hydrated and bring a bottle of water. We do not sell water at the studio but offer a station for filling your bottle.

Practice on a light stomach.

Bring a yoga mat or plan to rent one for $1.

You may wish to bring a large towel as well, especially for our heated classes. We rent these for $1 as well.

No cell phones in studio please (unless it’s an emergency- please speak to the instructor prior to class).

We have 1 classroom and 1 therapy room at Yoga Source St. Louis. We ask that prior to entering or after exiting your class, that you respectfully remain quiet for other classes or workshops that may be taking place in another room.

Remember to keep an open mind. Yoga has almost nothing to do with flexibility. Improved flexibility comes with a regular yoga practice. Your second class is free, provided you attend within a week of your first class. We do this to encourage you to continue to practice. It’s regularity that brings the balanced mind, body, soul and improved physique so many have found through yoga.
